What is this stuff?
If you are new to the martial arts, the most difficult task you face is deciding what you want to do
and where to train. Should I do Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Judo? Are they all the same?
Which one is the best?
At Precision Martial Arts we specialize in
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Mixed Martial Arts
Our programs are what we like to call contemporary styles. We use the most modern training
techniques and results from real life scenarios in developing our curriculum. The flaw that we
believe many styles have is that the training methods are simply outdated. You will probably
never be confronted with a sword or a throwing star in the real world, so why spend hundreds of
hours practicing for these situations? Secondly, many people buy into the idea of the martial arts
"super hero" created by Hollywood. In the movies martial artists can easily defeat many tough
opponents with magical acrobatic techniques. The reality is that real fights look nothing like they
do in the movies and you will probably not be able to fight 10 guys who really want to hurt you no
matter how good you are. Any instructor who tries to convince you otherwise is simply lying to
you. The beautiful choreographed action sequences of the movies are better suited for
Hollywood than the real world.
These simple ideas are at the core of our curriculum and what separates what we teach from
many of the other martial arts schools you will find. If you are looking for a physical challenge; If
you would like to be empowered with confidence from knowing how to protect yourself in virtually
any situation; if you are willing to make a commitment to improving yourself; and you enjoy
working hard to get the results you want, Precision Martial Arts is your best choice for a school!
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu:
A study conducted by the LAPD involving use of force cases sampled over 3,000 different real
situations involving hand to hand violence. The study concluded that about 65% end up with both
combatants wrestling on the ground (quite a bit different than what we see in the movies!)
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specializes in fighting from the "clinch" while standing up, and dominating and
controlling your opponent if you end up on the ground.
Have you ever watched a boxing match? If you have, you have probably seen 2 fighters hugging
each other causing a lack of action. Because of the lack of action, the fighters are separated by
a referee so they can punch each other some more and give the fans an exciting show. This
hugging position is called a "clinch". The reason this happens is that if one fighter is in trouble his
coach will instruct him to get into a clinch because it will make it extremely difficult for his
opponent to continue hitting him. It is very hard to punch or kick someone when you arms are
wrapped in a hugging position. Jiu-Jitsu specializes in using this position because there are no
referees to "restart" the fight in a real fight! This position gives you the ability to neutralize
someones ability strike you, especially if they are bigger than you are.
If you end up fighting on the ground, you will learn techniques to neutralize an opponent's
aggression from any position on the ground. The Jiu-Jitsu fighter will look to fight for a position
where he can hit his opponent but his opponent cannot hit him, or he will apply a submission hold
which will cause the person to either give up or be seriously injured. The trademark of this style is
the ability to win a fight even if you are in the bottom position.
This is a physically demanding class. The student will go through conditioning drills which will
strengthen the body, improve agility and coordination, and increase stamina. There will be close
physical contact with others when learning and practicing the techniques, and the student will be
expected to spar on a regular basis. It is a lot of hard work in the beginning, but the payoff is
extraordinary. Our program will make you feel confident and learn the style very quickly.
New students will need to purchase a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi to participate in this class.
Mixed Martial Arts:
Mixed Martial Arts(MMA) is the fastest growing martial art in the world. The reason for the rapid
growth is the international exposure it has received from pay per view events such as the
Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC), PRIDE FC, and many other smaller fighting organizations
around the globe. It is arguably the most exciting martial art to watch and showcases some of the
best athletes on the planet
MMA is a combination of boxing, kickboxing, olympic wrestling, and jiu-jitsu. It is a fighting sport in
which competitors will try to win by knockout, submission hold, or judges decision using very
limited rules. If you are a fan of MMA you will love this class! It is a great workout, it is fun , and
you can do it even if you never want to be a fighter! People who prefer training without the
traditional gi will also enjoy the MMA class format.
In addition to being a fun workout, students will learn a variety of skills to become a well rounded
martial artist. Fundamental punching and kicking techniques are taught, as well as how to safely
block and evade strikes. Students will learn how to use focus mits (a really fun workout), and
what to do in the clinch. Striking from the clinch ("dirty boxing") and takedowns are covered as
well as striking on the ground ("ground & pound") and fundamental submission holds and
defenses.
New students will need to purchase boxing gloves for this class.
